I am a florist and teacher with over 35 years of experience in the floristry industry. I have worked commercially, teaching and demonstrating all over the Midlands.

 

I deliver courses from 60/90 minute taster sessions and lessons ,one day events and 6/12 week courses. This gives me the opportunity to reach out to people of all ages, backgrounds and capabilities in the community.

 

The aim is to deliver a safe haven of calm and relaxation whilst learning a new skill and encouraging a sense of achievement in a friendly environment .During each session students will watch a demonstration of floristry /flower arranging and will be provided all the materials and sundries to complete their own design whilst being guided through every stage .Each participant will have a design to take away that they have completed themselves and be encouraged to be proud of that item and each others.

 

Within the sessions designs will be based on the change of seasons and special occasions including Christmas ,Halloween Eid etc we will discuss the use of colour ,texture, shape and form. This can be educational for participants in a less stressful format than they may be used to. For more elderly groups this encourages a conversation ,memories and ‘ a chat ‘.For supported learning groups this will be a calm surrounding where they can experience colour and touch etc. Sessions can be delivered to all size groups from one to one or full size classes.

 

Floristry/flower arranging is a craft that can be so rewarding and learning a new skill has a marked effect on a persons mental health ,sense of wellbeing and self esteem. Sessions are delivered with the aim to improve social skills and give a student “ something to look forward to”. The goal is to always be aware of each persons ability and support their needs and what they want to achieve from these sessions and look at each individuals growth within each lesson.
